Jones On Comeback And Scunthorpe Defeat

31 October 2016

Town defender Lloyd Jones was thrilled to have returned to first-team action on Saturday but was bitterly disappointed with the mistakes that led to a 4-1 defeat to Scunthorpe United.

The on-loan Liverpool centre-back came on at half-time at Glanford Park for his first outing since the end of September and helped the Reds put in an improved second-half showing against the Sky Bet League One leaders.

“It was disappointing to be 4-0 down at half-time and it was just the mistakes that we made at the back,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“We can all make mistakes and if we could have cut them out then it would have been a different game.

“The first goal killed us a little bit but the important thing for us was not to concede again in the second-half.

“That was a very important thing for us.

“I look back on my injury and I shouldn’t have forced it against Northampton but it has been longer than I expected so I was very happy to come on at half-time.

“We tried to change things a little bit and be more solid at the back and Michael Doughty and Jordan Stewart both came on and did really well.”

Jones is now looking forward to this Friday’s FA Cup First Round tie away at Eastleigh and what could be his first ever game in the competition.

“I’ve never actually played in the FA Cup so if I’m selected this will be my first game,” he added.

“It wouldn’t be a bad way to get started. Eastleigh will be a tough game and it is live on BBC Two, so it should be good.

“We’ve got to put Saturday’s result right and we’ve got to turn up. They won’t be as strong as us in possession or as good as us on the ball and if we play our game right then we should win quite comfortably.

“However, if our mind-set isn’t right then we could have a tough Friday night.”
