Jones On First Town Goal And Rovers Loss

21 September 2016

Lloyd Jones was happy to have bagged his first goal in Town colours on Tuesday evening but is now only focused on getting back to winning ways this weekend.

Despite flying into an early lead at SN1 last night, the Robins were on the end of a 2-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers after conceding two goals in quick succession late on in the game.

Jones was in the right place at the right time to put the finishing touches to Sean Murray’s corner in the fifth minute to give the hosts the lead - his first goal of the season.

Although Town have suffered three league defeats on the bounce, confidence is still sky high at the club and Jones knows the wins will come sooner rather than later.

“We started the game very well but we could have managed the game better after the goal, we dropped off a bit too much,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“There were a few tired legs out there and Rovers’ game-plan was just to knock it long and they’ve scored off two long balls.

“There are no confidence issues, we’re a very confident team and we are all behind the gaffer – I’ve been on loan a few times and I’ve never seen players behind a gaffer so much before.

“It is on to the next game and we are lucky we have got a game Saturday and then we’ve got another game on Tuesday, so anyone can beat anyone in this league.

“We just need to go on that run and I’m sure we’ll be fine.

“No matter how the results go we’re not going to change who we are and our style of play. We believe in the way we play and I’m sure the results will come.”

Jones savoured his maiden goal for Town last night but would have taken the three points over hitting the back of the net.

“I’m very happy to score and I just threw my head at it. But I’m about the team and I want the results so it doesn’t matter who scores in this team as long as we get the three points at the end of the game.”
