Thomas Looking To Bounce Back Against Rovers

20 September 2016

Town midfielder Conor Thomas is eyeing a return to winning ways against local rivals Bristol Rovers this evening (7.45pm Kick-Off).

The Robins have suffered defeats in their last two outings in the league – against Oxford United and Bury respectively – after previously carving out a three-game unbeaten run.

And Thomas, who has featured in eight matches for his new club so far this term, knows there would be no better time to get back on track then against Rovers tonight.

“The last two results and performances have been disappointing as a group,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“But before that we had a couple of draws with Gillingham and Peterborough and we were quite happy with the start we had made.

“The last two games have been disappointing and we didn’t deal with the occasion well enough in the Oxford game.

“We didn’t deal or cope with the way they pressed us at all and the occasion maybe got to us a bit with a couple of red cards, so that obviously didn’t help.

“The game at the weekend was just a slow start and we can’t be 2-0 down at half-time chasing the game – we can’t give a team something to hold on to like that because teams do come here and bank up sometimes.

“If they do that and then get a 2-0 head-start then they are absolutely laughing.

“We are very disappointed but we’ll be doing everything we can to put that right on Tuesday.

“Last time out against Rovers was probably one of the games where we had started well. We controlled the game from the start and we were looking very good.

“If the game would have carried on then I’m pretty sure we would have got the goal we deserved.

“They looked a physical team and it was a good atmosphere so we are going to have to manage the occasion better than we did against Oxford, and we’re going to have to start quick again – we can’t be on the back-foot and be chasing the game at half-time again.

“We know how big of a game it is for the fans and we want to get the three points and send everyone home happy.”
