Town Head Coach Luke Williams sat down with the local press on Thursday to preview tomorrow’s must-win clash against Scunthorpe United. Here’s what he had to say…
“I’ve tried to look at a few more different options that give us more going forward without us losing too much defensive shape and cover,” he said.
“This group of players have been able to create dozens of chances in games and still not get over the line with a victory often enough, so it is always a balancing act for me to know how many players to commit forward, how high to place the team and whether to concentrate on counter-attacking or build-up approach.
“There’s many different things to think about and that’s my job of course and it is what I spend all my waking hours doing – trying to find answers to problems.
“We have to have balance, we have to remain calm even under the pressure we’re under and I’m trying to anticipate what the future is going to bring and I’m trying to come up with a calculated approach to win these last two games.
“The message that I’ve given to my players is that I believe this Scunthorpe team is very professional and they will play in the same way they played on the very first day of the season.
“They won’t give us anything at all and their manager is going to want them to keep momentum going into the play-offs.
“We have to make sure that we don’t expect anything otherwise.
“They are probably in as good as form as everybody else and they are a very good team and it will be a tough game for us.
“We’ve played against the team in second away and beat them, we played against the team in third and beat them, we played against a very strong Millwall team and beat them, a very strong Bradford team and beat them so I don’t think there is any reason for us to doubt that we can win.
“But, for sure, if we don’t expect a tough game then we’re in for a shock.”
