BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Norwich City V Town

All You Need To Know Ahead Of Tonight's Carabao Cup Clash

8 August 2017

Swindon Town will be looking to spring an upset tonight when they take on Norwich City in the Carabao Cup First Round (7:45pm Kick-Off).

Dave Flitcroft’s side will be the underdogs at Carrow Road tonight although they will fancy their chances against the Sky Bet Championship outfit.

The Reds got the new season off to a flyer on Saturday after beating Carlisle United 2-1 away from home, while the Canaries were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

LAST TIME WE MET:

Gordon Greer scored a thumping header late on to rescue a valuable point in our last outing against Norwich, back in March 2010. Grant Holt had fired the visitors into the lead at The County Ground in what was a big game for both teams at the top of the League One table.

ONE TO WATCH:

Norwich boast a large playing squad and they could well opt to freshen things up tonight, including handing a debut to new signing Marco Stiepermann.

The midfielder arrived at Carrow Road last week from VFL Bochum for an undisclosed fee and he looks set to be involved tonight.

Able to play in the number ten role and as a holding midfielder, Stiepermann brings plenty of flexibility and experience to the Canaries’ midfield.

TEAM NEWS:

The Canaries look set to make some changes this evening following their Sky Bet Championship opener at the weekend.

Russell Martin could be rested tonight while Jamal Lewis and former Town loanee Harry Toffolo could come into the fold.

Town have a few injury concerns of their own with Luke Norris (shoulder), Donal McDermott (foot) and Kyle Knoyle (knee) all sidelined.

Norris’ absence could pave the way for Harry Smith to make his full debut for the club, although new recruit Kaiyne Woolery will also be hoping to be involved.

A WORD FROM BOTH CAMPS:

Daniel Farke, Norwich City Manager: “I want to win each and every game in each and every competition.

“This game is high priority for me and especially in the beginning of the season, it’s quite important that the team find their rhythm.

“I don’t believe in too many changes between games, especially in the beginning of the season because the team has to find their rhythm.

“For sure, there will be some changes because we had just two days between the games.”

Dave Flitcroft, Swindon Town Manager: “We’re not a big enough squad to give people different game time.

“There is so much honesty in this group which delights me and we’ll go to Norwich, try and give an honest performance and see where that takes us.

“We can only fight what is in-front of us and we can only play what is in-front of us and that’s what we’ll do come 7:45pm on Tuesday.

“We’ll try and commit to a game-plan and try and commit to each other again.”
