Conroy - We're Looking Forward To Carlisle

Defender Reflects On Woking Win And Looks Ahead To Opening Day

1 August 2017

Dion Conroy believes confidence is high heading into the opening weekend of the new season following the 3-0 victory against Woking on Saturday.

Goals from Luke Norris, Conroy and John Goddard handed Town a deserved win in what was the final game of pre-season for the first-team.

All eyes are now on the trip to Carlisle United this weekend in what is the first game of the 2017/18 Sky Bet League Two campaign, and Conroy can’t wait to get going at Brunton Park.

“It is important to win and get that confidence before our first game of the season and it is good to take that into Carlisle,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk exclusively.

“A clean sheet was our aim before the game so that was important. Loz (Lawrence Vigouroux) pulled off a couple of good saves and to win 3-0 was a good result.

“We changed the formation in the second-half and we got a bit more joy out of that. We were more direct, we were winning second balls and we just won our individual battles after the break.

“We were on top of them for the whole of the second-half and we managed to score three goals, so it was a good afternoon.

“It was a good all-round performance from the team.

“We’re looking forward to Carlisle now.”

It was also a good day at the office for Conroy on a personal level after completing a full 90 minutes, in addition to getting on the scoresheet with a bullet header.

“Getting on the end of Chris Hussey’s corner was nice but it was more important to get the clean sheet,” he added.

“I was buzzing to score and hopefully I can get a few more this season.

“I got my first 90 minutes of pre-season against Benfica and to get another 90 minutes under my belt on Saturday was good.

“Everyone is feeling fit and looking forward to Carlisle now.

“We’ll prepare right for the game and the boys will be ready. It is the first game of the season so we want to win.”
