INJURY UPDATE: Morecambe Game To Come Too Soon For Goddard

Midfielder To Miss Trip To Globe Arena

17 August 2017

John Goddard has suffered a slight setback in his road to recovery and won’t be available for the trip to Morecambe on Saturday.

The attacker suffered a foot injury during the 2-1 win away at Carlisle United on opening day and has missed the Reds’ last three outings.

Goddard has been putting plenty of work in as he continues to work towards a comeback and, although he won’t be fit for the weekend, a return to full training next week looks likely.

“The injury plateaued out and I thought I might have had him for the West Ham game on Tuesday night,” Town Boss Dave Flitcroft told iFollow STFC exclusively.

“He’s done some field based stuff and some functional work with Chris Neville this morning and we’ll see how that reacts this afternoon and tomorrow morning.

“It will probably be next week now when we can have a whole week to look at Jonny.

“The injury was doing fine but it just plateaued out and it has slowed down a bit, so I’m disappointed with that.

“I don’t just want him looking like a good player, I want him to hurt teams and we’ll hopefully have him in and around what we are doing next week.”

“I want Jonny in and around what we are doing and he’s putting everything into his rehab to try and get back into the team.

“They are all key players but Jonny offers something a little bit different and he’s a fantastic technician.

“Towards the back-end of pre-season we certainly started him with the intentions of hurting teams, which I have been expressing to Jonny from day one and that’s what I want him to do.
