INJURY UPDATE: Town Without Goddard Again

Attacker Still Not Ready To Return To Action

24 August 2017

Swindon Town will continue to be without the services of John Goddard when Crawley visit The County Ground on Saturday (3pm Kick-Off).

The midfielder sustained a foot injury during the opening day win over Carlisle United and he’s been out of action since.

And, after suffering a setback on his road to recovery last week, Goddard will be forced to watch the action from the sidelines once again this weekend.

“I said last week that the injury plateaued and we had to give him two days off site,” Town Boss Dave Flitcroft said at his pre-match press conference earlier today.

“We got him on the grass and there was a little bit of a reaction to being on the grass and doing certain movements like checking and turning.

“He’s come through all the straight-line stuff now but going on the grass has just unsettled it a little bit.

“I’m not going to have Johnny for the weekend which is disappointing because I want him around the group and he’s missing valuable training time and game time.

“He’s doing everything he can in the gym to get back and get playing and be a part of it, but it has become a little bit frustrating for him so we are just working on Johnny and making sure that his head is in a good place.

“Sometimes you look at the physical aspect of an injury but I’m very big on the emotional and mental side of it because I spent a lot of time as a young player being injured and it can be a lonely place.

Dave Flitcroft On John Goddard's Injury

“I am spending time with both Johnny and Kyle (Knoyle) and letting them know what it is going to look like when they are back fit.

“It is important that I do that.

“I’m just a bit gutted myself because I thought I would have Johnny for this weekend.”
