Town Captain Olly Lancashire felt his side were good value for their 2-1 opening day win against Carlisle United.
The Reds got the new season off to a successful start at Brunton Park yesterday thanks to efforts from Luke Norris and Paul Mullin, leaving Lancashire a happy Skipper.
“We started well and we had a lot of chances in the first-half,” he said.
“It was pleasing to go 2-0 up at a place where results are tough to come by and they got to the Play-Off Semi-Finals last season.
“They are fancied pretty highly this year as well and I thought the lads really dug-in during the last twenty-minutes and made sure that they didn’t really get chances to grab an equaliser.
“The early signs are good and to come to Carlisle and get three points is a good start.”
Lancashire partnered Dion Conroy at the heart of the defence yesterday and the defender has tipped his young colleague to enjoy a bright future in the game.
“I’ve been very, very impressed with Dion,” he added.
“He’s still young, he hasn’t played many games and as a centre-half the more games you play the more experience you get.
“Dion has got a great future, he’s got everything about him and you can tell he’s been brought up correctly at Chelsea.
“I’m looking forward to working with him this season.”
