Lancashire Honoured To Be New Town Captain

New Skipper Thrilled To Be Handed The Armband

4 August 2017

Olly Lancashire has spoken of his pride after being announced as Swindon Town’s new Captain earlier today.

The experienced centre-back will lead the Reds into battle throughout the 2017/18 campaign and he’s relishing his new role.

“I’m delighted to have been given the armband,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk exclusively.

“I’m very happy to get it and it wasn’t something that I expected when I first signed.

“There are quite a few lads here who it could have gone to and I’m sure they will play that role as well.

“I’ll be looking after the lads in training and obviously on a matchday as well and it seems a pretty good group to captain.

“It is just making sure that everyone is on board with what the gaffer wants to do and buy into his plans.

“I’ll be using my previous experience as captain to be a better skipper, a better player and a better person for the lads and I’ll be that link between the staff and the players.”

“I’ll be making sure that everyone is pushing in the same direction to achieve our goals this season.

“I’ve been captain before and it is a role that I enjoy, especially on a matchday, and it is something I am looking forward to.

“I need to lead by example on the training pitch, on a matchday and hopefully I can lead the boys to a successful season.

“You are always learning as a footballer and different experiences teach you different things.

“I’ll be using my previous experience as captain to be a better skipper, a better player and a better person for the lads and I’ll be that link between the staff and the players.”

James Dunne has been named as Town’s Vice-Captain and Lancashire believes the midfielder has the perfect character for the role.

“The gaffer has brought in quite a few experienced lads and Dunny has had a very good career and he’s also very experienced, so the more of those characters we can have around the place the better,” he added.

“We’ve got some good characters here that will make sure everything is done correctly and ultimately get to our end goal, which is to be successful this season.”
