Norris Wants To Lead From The Front For Town

Swindon's New Number Nine Is Out On A Mission in 17/18

Handed the iconic number nine shirt for the 2017/18 campaign, Luke Norris is determined to step up to the plate and help fire Town to glory.

The forward has enjoyed a new lease of life under Dave Flitcroft in pre-season, producing a number of impressive all-round displays.

That has led to Norris being named the club’s new number nine and he’s determined to produce the goods this season in-front of goal in order to help Town secure an immediate return to League One.

“It is going to be a lot better than last year, I believe. I’m going to be a lot more involved in certain things and it has been a massive boost this pre-season,” he said.

“It has been very enjoyable.

“Huss (Chris Hussey) has given us a new lease of life, he’s got a great understanding with John Goddard and that looks like that could be quite a dangerous partnership and a lot of chances are going to be created down that side.

“Leading the attack is something I need to do this season.

“The number nine shirt was something I wanted and the staff wanted me to have it as well - they actually asked me before I asked them.

“That is a great confidence booster coming from them and I have to repay them now.

“Hopefully it is going to work out and we can all be enjoying ourselves in ten months’ time.

“Goals are the most important thing but there is a lot more to it and the manager expects a lot more than just a goal here and there.

“Goals are the main thing but it’s about being a team player and doing everything I can to help.

“It has got to be a big improvement this season.

“You have your own personal targets and, with the way the squad is looking, I think it is going to be a lot easier for players to improve on last season.

“We have got good quality in different types of areas and I think we are going to have a good chance.”

“Leading the attack is something I need to do this season. The number nine shirt was something I wanted and the staff wanted me to have it as well - they actually asked me before I asked them."

Town open their Sky Bet League Two campaign away at Carlisle tomorrow (3pm Kick-Off) and Norris is expecting a tough test at Brunton Park.

“I prefer this being the first game of the season because the pitches are always a bit nicer this time of year,” he added.

“Carlisle are a good side and they will be aiming for the Play-Offs again this season.

“They have got some good players, they have signed a few and it will be a good test.

“The overall goal for us is promotion and the gaffer wants winners. No matter what, no matter how, we want to win games of football and that’s the most important thing.

“Promotion is always the aim and we’ve got the squad to go straight back up.”
