REACTION: Flitcroft Delighted With Town After Morecambe Win

Gaffer Gives His Thoughts After Our Away Day Success

19 August 2017

Town Boss Dave Flitcroft spoke to members of the local press in the wake of our 1-0 win away at Morecambe today.

Here's what he had to say…

ON THE RESULT AND PERFORMANCE:

“I am delighted.

“We were structurally good and for the first 25-minutes I think whoever we would have played we would get on top of them because we did everything right.

“We then gave Morecambe a little bit of momentum by doing a couple of things that were sloppy and it gives the crowd a bit of a lift.

“We got into half-time in a nice controlled manner and then we really went about our business in the second-half.

“I said to the boys at half-time that if you don’t kill off the game then a Jim Bentley team won't lie down.

“They epitomise his values and his spirit and for the last five, ten minutes we had to weather another storm and that is part and parcel of the ugly side of football.

“It is actually imperative that we can do that and we can shut games down. They threw their keeper at us, they threw everything at us and you’ve got to be able to contain it.

“In League Two teams will try anyway to try and win a football match and that’s what Morecambe did.

“It was a squad effort today and we’ve had to get big Robbo (Chris Robertson) on to try and deal with that aerial threat to shut the game out.

“I was delighted with the attitude and the application of the players.

“A clean sheet is priceless at any level and I’m delighted with the three points.”

ON DONAL MCDERMOTT:

“He was outstanding today.

“He’s got his game minutes in now, he’s blown off the pre-season cobwebs and we’ve seen what quality he’s got.

“He’s robust and he keeps the ball for us to allow us to get up the pitch and he’s one of the most committed players I’ve ever seen.

“I have to slow him down in training sometimes because he is so committed to training and he picks up little injuries.

“We got another little scare the other night but he came through that and wanted to play through it, so I’m delighted.”

“I was delighted with the attitude and the application of the players. A clean sheet is priceless at any level and I’m delighted with the three points.”

ON LAWRENCE VIGOUROUX:

"It was quite close. We had it X-rayed, we got another X-ray on Thursday and he’s had painkillers to get through the pain.

“He’s come through it and all credit to Lawrence because he’s got his clean sheet.

“To keep the ball out of the net is the most important thing in a goalkeeper’s life.

“He was fantastic.”
