Swindon Town V Crawley Town - Five Things To Look Out For

Key Storylines To Focus On Tomorrow

25 August 2017

Town will look to continue their good start to the Sky Bet League Two season on Saturday when they host Crawley Town at The County Ground (3pm Kick-Off).

Here’s five key storylines to keep an eye on…

KEEPING THE GOOD START GOING:

Town haven’t gone through the first month of a new season unbeaten since the 2012/13 campaign, when they reached the League One Play-Offs.

It has been a good start to 2017/18 for Dave Flitcroft’s side who have collected seven points from a possible nine, while they have secured impressive victories away from home against Carlisle United and Morecambe.

A win tomorrow would likely see the Reds keep their place at the top of the Sky Bet League Two table and it would keep the current feel-good factor going.

GETTING OFF THE MARK AT THE CG:

The Reds head into tomorrow’s fixture desperate to deliver their fans the first home win of the season following a 1-1 draw with Exeter City a fortnight ago.

Dave Flitcroft’s side produced a brilliant second-half display against The Grecians to salvage a point and they will be looking to make a fast start tomorrow.

With another big crowd expected at The County Ground on Saturday, Town will be looking to give the Swindon faithful plenty to cheer about come 5pm.

DEBUT FOR MATTY?

There was yet another incoming this week with vastly experienced midfielder Matty Taylor arriving on a free transfer.

The 35-year-old has been there and done it having racked up a number of appearances in the top flight for the likes of Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers.

Known for his ability from set-pieces and his penchant for the spectacular, Taylor is expected to be involved in some capacity against Crawley and there is no doubt that Town fans will be eager to see their new man in action for the first time.

END THE RUN:

Town haven’t beaten Crawley since August 2012 when goals from Matt Ritchie, Tommy Miller and Raffaele De Vita secured a 3-0 success at SN1.

Since then, the Reds have drawn three and lost two of their last five meetings against tomorrow’s opponents.

With the last two showdowns against the Red Devils both ending in defeat, Dave Flitcroft’s side will be out to put their poor recent record against Crawley to bed.

TOP V BOTTOM:

Tomorrow’s game will pit the league leaders against the division’s bottom side as Town look to extend their unbeaten start to the new season, while Crawley will be hoping to pick up their first points of 2017/18.

However, it is still very early days and the Red Devils have created plenty of chances under Harry Kewell, meaning that they will pose a very stern test on Saturday.

It could well be Swindon’s toughest test of the campaign so far and they will be looking to guard against complacency come kick-off.

Tickets for tomorrow’s game are still on sale and can be bought online via https://www.eticketing.co.uk/swindontown/or in person at the STFC Store prior to the game.
