Brophy Desperate To Claim The Three Points On Sunday

2 February 2017

Town defender James Brophy knows just how important this weekend’s game against Oxford United is, but he is only focused on trying to keep the three points at The County Ground.

It is Derby Day at SN1 on Sunday (12pm Kick-Off) and both a huge three points and the local bragging rights are stake, and Brophy is hell-bent on making sure that both remain in Wiltshire.

“The most important thing is to get three points and we need to start climbing up the table as soon as possible,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“With it being a derby game it does add that extra bit of spice to it.

“We were disappointed with Saturday’s result away at Bristol Rovers but we know this weekend we definitely need to get three points.

“We know Oxford’s threats and they are a big, physical team but we also know our own strengths and we need to be confident in how we play, be brave and take risks when we need to take risks.

“Every game in League One is going to be scrappy and we need to dig deep and get our hands dirty in order to see through parts of the game, but there will be parts of the game where it opens up and there will be more space for us to play our football.

“There will be a lot more fans here than usual on Sunday and the atmosphere will be a lot different but our fans can help to push us on.

“We’ve got to take it as another game but we know what it means to the fans and what it means to the club, so to put that record straight would be great and we know we need to get three points.”

Town brought in eight fresh faces in January and Brophy feels the new arrivals have really helped to lift the mood around the club.

“The new faces have energised us and it has been a breath of fresh air seeing fresh faces in the building – hopefully they can help energise us on the pitch,” he added.

“We know what Nicky (Ajose) gives us so hopefully he can start off on Sunday by getting some goals.”
