Town Head Coach Luke Williams has revealed that he is reluctant to rush Jon Obika back into action too quickly.
The striker is back in full training after missing the Reds’ last four outings and will be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s Sky Bet League One fixture away at Bury (3pm Kick-Off).
“We were expecting Jon to train today and we need to really be 100% sure of what he’s capable of,” Williams said at his pre-match press conference earlier today.
“I’m not prepared to risk Jon’s health and I’m not prepared to put him in before I know what he’s capable of.”
However, Brad Barry will miss out on Saturday as he continues to work his way back from an ankle problem.
“Bradley is running next to the training pitch and he’s working very hard physically, so we hope he can be in contention soon,” Williams added.
And both Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill and Ellis Iandolo are still on the road to recovery after coming through a reserve game unscathed on Tuesday.
Finally, Williams has hinted that on-loan Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Rohan Ince could be involved against Bury tomorrow after being one of two loanees to miss out last Sunday.
“With seven loanees it is about juggling and to go from the starting line-up one week and then be out of the squad completely the next week is difficult to manage and it is difficult to accept for the players, but that is the reality,” he continued.
“You don’t go from the starting line-up to the bench if you are being replaced by another loanee, you go from the starting line-up to the stands or to the sofa.
“Rohan was in that situation last week and he’s got a chance to be involved tomorrow and it could be somebody else missing out.
“He’s not played many games this campaign so there might be some level of rustiness, but Rohan has to overcome that because time isn’t a luxury that we have.”
