Obika In Confident Mood Ahead Of Northampton Trip

14 February 2017

Jon Obika was pleased to have made his comeback at the weekend but is now only focused on helping Town turn their fortunes around.

The striker returned to action during the defeat to Bury on Saturday and could well play a key role away at Northampton Town tonight (7.45pm Kick-Off).

“It was very good to be out there but of course the result put a downer on things and now it is about thinking about the team and helping us to get back to winning ways,” he said.

“As players we have to stand up now. Luke (Williams) and Ross (Embleton) get us ready for every game and it is up to us as players to go out and show what we have done in the week.

“We need this run of games because every match is massive now and we look forward to Northampton tonight.

“We played them earlier in the season, they are a physical team and we know the threats that they have, but we know our plan for the game.

“It is up to us to execute the plan now.”

Obika was also asked by the local press about his contract, which is due to expire in the summer, but the popular frontman insisted that his only focus at the moment is on trying to fire Town up the the table.

“It is with the club and my agent,” he continued.

“I need to get back fit and get goals so that is all that is on my mind.

“I’ve always been committed and I want to do well for the team and I owe it to the managers.”
