Town's January Transfer Window Summary

1 February 2017

January proved to be an extremely busy month for Town who were active in the Winter Transfer Window right up until the 11pm Deadline on Tuesday evening.

Two departures kicked-off proceedings as both Michael Doughty and Darnell Furlong returned to parent club QPR after a successful five-month stint in Wiltshire.

However, it wasn’t long before fresh faces started to arrive at SN1 and Ben Gladwin was first through the door, signing on loan until the end of the season from QPR. The midfielder made an instant impact, scoring on his third debut during the 2-1 win away at Bolton Wanderers.

Just a day later and Town were even busier having recruited Charlie Colkett, Fankaty Dabo and Islam Feruz from Premier League leaders Chelsea, with the trio all on loan deals until the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

It was then time for a departure with striker Nathan Delfouneso bringing the curtain down on his Town career by agreeing a permanent switch to League Two outfit Blackpool.

Swindon were still looking to bolster their ranks in the last few days of the window and they stepped up their search last week, handing Chelsea prospect Dion Conroy a two-and-a-half-year deal, with the defender making his debut away at Bristol Rovers last Saturday.

And things only got busier on Deadline Day with the Reds making three key and impressive signings.

Popular striker Nicky Ajose, who had plundered 35 goals in just 61 games during his two previous stints at The County Ground, returned from Charlton Athletic on loan until the end of the current campaign.

That was quickly followed by the arrival of experienced Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Rohan Ince, who has made over 50 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship for both the Seagulls and Fulham.

There was still time for one more signing with Brighton youngster Jesse Starkey arriving on a permanent deal late in the evening, putting pen to paper on an 18-month contract at SN1.

Sean Murray had departed Wiltshire earlier in the day, joining Colchester United on a free transfer after parting ways with Town.

All in all, Swindon brought in eight new signings throughout the month of January, with four heading in the opposite direction, and everything is now set for a big second-half of the season.
