Conroy Is A Red!

27 January 2017

Swindon Town have made their first permanent signing of the January Transfer Window after securing the services of Dion Conroy on a permanent deal.

The defender arrives from Premier League leaders Chelsea for an undisclosed fee and has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal at The County Ground.

Conroy, who is a centre-back by trade, trained with his new team-mates for the very first time this morning and is eligible to feature against Bristol Rovers in the Sky Bet League One tomorrow.

The 21-year-old joined Chelsea at the age of 13 and quickly showed his promise as a strong and commanding central defender.

Having impressed for the U19s and the U21s, Conroy played his part in Chelsea winning the FA Youth Cup and he also picked up an U21 Premier League winner’s medal.

After signing a contract extension until 2018, Conroy was loaned out to National League outfit Aldershot Town at the start of the 2016/17 campaign, where he made 17 appearances.

However, Town have now swooped to make the young talent a permanent asset and he becomes the Reds’ fifth signing of the winter window, joining Ben Gladwin and former Chelsea team-mates Charlie Colkett, Fankaty Dabo and Islam Feruz at SN1.

Conroy has been assigned shirt number 25 for Swindon.
