Hussey Has His Eyes On The Prize With Town

Defender Confident Of Tasting Glory With The Reds

New signing Chris Hussey declared himself thrilled to have put pen to paper at The County Ground and he’s hoping to be part of something special in 2017/18.

Despite having interest from a host of other clubs, the attacking left-back opted for a reunion with Dave Flitcroft at SN1, joining on a season-long loan from Sheffield United.

Having achieved promotion from League Two with Bury, Hussey is hoping to put that experience to good use as he bids to play his part in making sure Town’s stay in the fourth tier of English football is a short one.

“I’m delighted to be here and it is a big club – I’ve heard a lot of great stuff about it,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk exclusively.

“I’ve worked with the gaffer before at Bury and the vision that he shared for the club was one that matched mine.

“Working with the gaffer again was a big attraction for me. He knows how to get out of this league having been promoted with Bury and he knows his stuff at this level.

“I’m looking to get promoted this season and I’m sure everyone else is as well.

“Everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet, everyone knows what they want, the gaffer knows exactly what he wants and he’ll make sure that by the first game of the season we’ll know how to play his way.

“The lads have been fantastic and we all share the same aim of getting promoted because this club deserves to be higher up in the footballing pyramid.”

Hussey has had a couple of training sessions with his new team-mates and he feels that there is already a real sense of togetherness amongst the squad.

“Any successful team needs to be together through thick and thin and the gaffer is quite big on that,” he continued.

“You speak to any successful team and they will say that togetherness is key. You need that team spirit and it will take us a long way this year.

“The lads have been fantastic and we all share the same aim of getting promoted because this club deserves to be higher up in the footballing pyramid.”

“We’re off to Portugal in a week and that will be good for the lads for everyone to bond together and get to know everyone and get to know the gaffer a bit more.

“The idea of these trips is about getting fitness but it is also about bonding and getting to know each other.”

Town open their pre-season campaign away at Swindon Supermarine tomorrow (3pm Kick-Off), and Hussey can’t wait to pull on a Swindon shirt for the first time.

“Pre-season is all about putting the hard miles in and the games are a bit of a reward because you get back to a bit of normality, putting the kit on, putting your shin pads on and it will be nice to get out there in-front of the Swindon fans,” he added.

“Hopefully we can enjoy the game, get the win and it will be good for the boys to get a little runout.

“I’m sure the game will be competitive.”

Finally, Hussey had a special message for the Town faithful ahead of what is shaping up to be a promising season for the club.

“Get behind the team, get behind the gaffer and give us all of your support,” he concluded.
