BREAKING: Town Bolster Their Defence With Robertson Signing

Reds Kick-Off Summer Recruitment

22 June 2017

Swindon Town have made their first signing of the summer with the addition of Chris Robertson

The experienced defender has put pen to paper on a contract with the Reds and he will join up with his new team-mates next week when pre-season starts.

Robertson is a centre-back by trade but he can also operate on the right-hand side of a back-four, giving his new club plenty of versatility.

Born in Dundee, Scotland, the 30-year-old has plied his trade for the likes of Torquay United, Preston North End, Port Vale and Ross County, and he’ll bring a wealth of experience to the Town squad.

Speaking exclusively to swindontownfc.co.uk after completing his medical, Robertson revealed his delight at signing for Town and he revealed what attracted him to sign for the club.

“I’m delighted to be here,” he said.

“It is a great challenge now to get Swindon back into League One, I’m excited about it and I’m raring to go.

“The way the gaffer and the assistant were both talking to me attracted me here, they were both eager and raring to go.

“They’ve got a game-plan of what they want to do with this football club and I liked their positivity.

“The club went through a bad spell last season so it is about trying to rectify that and hopefully bounce straight back to League One.”

Robertson becomes Dave Flitcroft’s first-ever signing as Town boss and the gaffer was thrilled to have got the towering centre-back on board.

“When we interviewed Chris and when we looked at his career, he’s a solid character and he wants to move his family down here,” he said.

“All the other players we are speaking to are all of a similar ilk and they want to do that, commit to Swindon and they want to commit to our vision that we’ve set out on and off the field, which is very important to me.

“Chris has got great experience that we certainly need and the younger players around him will benefit from that.

“Chris has joined us and I’m delighted he’s come in. He has got the profile of a centre-half that I was looking for.”
