A Look At Town's Opening Round Of League Two Games

21 June 2017

Town were handed their 2017/18 fixtures earlier today and they will kick-off the Sky Bet League Two campaign away at Carlisle United.

As part of our #FixtureReleaseDay coverage, we’ve taken a look at the Reds’ first five league fixtures…

Carlisle United (A) - Saturday 5th August:

Town will do plenty of travelling in the first week of the new campaign and they will get one of their longest trips out of the way on the opening day.

Carlisle reached the League Two Play-Offs in 2016/17 and they will hope to go one better this season.

It is a new era for the Reds and Dave Flitcroft will be taking charge of his first competitive game since filling the hot-seat at The County Ground, while the Swindon faithful will have plenty of new faces to watch in action for the very first time.

Exeter City (H) - Saturday 12th August:

Another game of significance given that it will be Town’s first home game of the season and Dave Flitcroft’s first time in the Swindon dugout at SN1.

Exeter were defeated in the Play-Off Final last term and it could well prove to be an entertaining encounter at SN1.

Morecambe (A) - Saturday 19th August:

Town will be clocking up plenty of miles in the opening month of the new season and they will be hoping to make it two wins out of two at the Globe Arena.

Crawley Town (H) - Saturday 26th August:

This will be the story of two new managers as Dave Flitcroft pits his wits against former Liverpool ace, Harry Kewell.

With both sides set to have plenty of new faces in their line-up, then it could well make for an intriguing afternoon in Wiltshire.

Barnet (H) - Saturday 2nd September:

Swindon will open September with another home game and it could be the perfect chance to build up some early momentum.

These two sides last did battle in April 2012, also in League Two, with goals from Ronan Murray and Oliver Risser giving Town the three points.
