Swindon Town Boss Dave Flitcroft is relishing the prospect of going toe-to-toe with Norwich City in the Carabao Cup.
With the First Round Draw having taken place earlier today, the Reds will head to Carrow Road the week commencing August 7th.
Both sides will have a new manager and a new set of players on display and Flitcroft is already looking forward to the tie.
“You always look out for that first cup game and where you are going to be playing from a logistics point of view, in terms of your travel arrangements and fitting that into the schedule,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.
“They come early but it is a great game for the football club, for the players and for me as a manager to pit our wits against a fantastic and established Championship club.
“It is fantastic for us to go there and represent Swindon Town.
“I’ll be going up against a manager who I’ve not played against and we’ll be able to do our work on them in pre-season, but we’ll look forward to it like every opportunity.
“It is a new start for both teams and we’ve got eight weeks to build towards the season and build towards the plan.
“We’ll look forward to every game that we play and I’ll be expressing to these players how lucky they are to be playing for Swindon Town and going to represent the club at such a fantastic stadium.”
Town have struggled in cup competitions in recent seasons and Flitcroft wants to put that right in 2017/18.
“Any game is important and every game that we will play will have a significance on it,” he added.
“You look at the bigger teams in the world now and they can rotate, they can change the team and the squad and you’ve just got to look at Manchester United winning the Europa League and the importance they put on that.
“We’re not in that fortunate position so we’ll be going there with all the good players in the squad and representing Swindon Town.
“That’s what we’ll be trying to achieve on the night.”
