New Swindon Town Manager David Flitcroft has issued the following message to supporters following his appointment on Monday.
“It is a new start for me, it is a new start for the football club and I only surround myself with positive people and I only surround myself with a positive vibe,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.
“Every day is a winning day and every day you turn up and you know what a fantastic opportunity we’ve got.
“That’s what I’ll be reiterating to the players and if they can show that and if they can show that they are excited to a Swindon player, that they love to be a Swindon player and they love giving everything for the cause, then hopefully we can get that message out there through the media platforms and through the press of Swindon and engage the supporters.
“Footballers are role models and I want the youth of Swindon and the next generation to come into the ground and watch heroes.
“I think it is too easy at times to have your Paul Pogba’s and your Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s as heroes, but our own players have got to inspire and they’ve got to motivate the next generation of fans.
“I want our current generation of fans to come and watch a committed team and that’s my job as Manager and solely my job and the job of the staff to make sure that we commit to performance, we commit to attitude and we commit to our fans and that’s something I’ve been able to do right throughout my football life.
“I wasn’t the most talented player but I would certainly work harder than anyone on the training field and that is something that has got to be a given as a new Swindon player.
“Hopefully that will ooze out of the player on a Saturday and cascade onto the terraces and it is a two-way thing.
“If we’re giving that then I’m sure the supporters will get behind that and get behind the effort and the industry and the aggression that we’re certainly going to play with.”
