Ajose - We've Just Got To Focus On Ourselves

14 March 2017

Nicky Ajose feels Town just need to concentrate on themselves in their battle for safety, starting with tonight’s crucial clash against Sheffield United.

The Reds welcome the Sky Bet League One leaders to The County Ground later (7.45pm Kick-Off) and Ajose wants to right the wrongs from Saturday’s defeat to Port Vale against The Blades this evening.

“It was a bitter pill to swallow. We had a lot of possession in the first-half, we played quite well and we should have comfortably been two or three goals up at half-time,” he said.

“They scored in the second-half and we probably gave too much too early, we threw everything at them and we were caught on the counter, which is game over at 3-1.

“We seem to have a problem conceding straight after we scored ourselves and we are scratching our heads ourselves, we can’t quite put our fingers on it but it must be a concentration thing.

“It was a massive game for us on Saturday but we’ve got a game tonight and we must put it right.

“I don’t look at the table. I’m aware we’re in the bottom four but at the end of the day if we don’t win games then we won’t stay up.

“We need to win probably half of our games to stay up and no team in the bottom four are going to win nine out of their last nine, so we just need to concentrate on ourselves and get some wins on the board.

“Sheffield United are top drawer and they are the best team I’ve faced this season.

“They’ve got a good squad and I was very impressed with them.

“They’ll come here expecting to win and we are at home and we expect to win so it should be a good game.”

And Ajose is fully fit and raring to go for tonight’s crucial clash after getting over an hour under his belt on Saturday following a brief spell out of action with a hamstring injury.

“I wasn’t meant to be back until after the Bradford game so to get over an hour on Saturday is credit to the staff at Charlton,” he continued.

“They worked with me for eight days straight and I didn’t have a minute off in order to get me right.

“I felt good on Saturday and I’m ready for Tuesday.”
