Smith Elated After First Town Goal

Striker Reflects On Cambridge Success

1 October 2017

Harry Smith declared himself "over the moon" after opening his account for the club during the 2-0 win against Cambridge United on Saturday.

With Town already leading 1-0 at The Energy Check County Ground thanks to Keshi Anderson's first-half effort, Smith was introduced off the bench late on in the game.

And the towering frontman made an instant impact, producing a cool finish to get off the mark for The Reds and wrap up the three points.

"I'm over the moon," he told iFollow STFC exclusively.

"There is no better feeling than scoring a goal when you are a striker and I'm absolutely buzzing with it.

"To get that first goal is key, it gets the pressure off your shoulders and hopefully I can kick-on now and get a few more.

"I'm delighted with the three points as well.

"It was 1-0 and to be the one to get the second to kill the game off was just a great feeling.

"The Gaffer has trusted me to come on, I feel like I've done a job and it was just rewards with the goal at the end.

"We were unfortunate to lose the game on Tuesday but to bounce back here is a massive win for us.

"We are going to come up against a lot of teams like Cambridge this season. They didn't have a lot of pace in the side but they were very direct and they had two very big forwards.

"The back-four, especially Matt Preston on his debut, dealt with them fantastically well and we took our chances when they came."
