Gaffer's Newport Preview

Phil Brown Gives His Verdict Ahead Of Saturday's Game

13 April 2018

Swindon Town Boss Phil Brown has given his thoughts ahead of our Sky Bet League Two clash away at Newport County on Saturday (3pm Kick-Off).

"Newport can be a very aggressive team, they are very direct and in their last game they changed systems on four or five occasions," he said.

"Hopefully that causes confusion in their ranks as opposed to ours.

"They do hit their strikers and Frank Nouble can be unplayable at times - he's a threat.

"Hopefully the pressure we'll be putting on from the front will affect that kind of directness and that kind of quality into the frontman if we can put pressure on whoever is serving that, whether it be the goalkeeper or a back-four player.

"That is the game-plan and closing down from the front will be key to any kind of positive result for us.

"If we want to play some football tomorrow then it is going to have to be in their half.

"That's not to say I'm going to go direct but the game tomorrow will be about second balls and Newport are well versed in that.

"It is not something I've overly worked on so far in the six games we've played, but it is a key asset and it is something that James Dunne is really well versed at.

"A win after four draws becomes must-win to a lot of people because of those four draws, if we would have won on Tuesday night and sitting in the Play-Offs, then it would have been less of a must-win.

"We are capable of winning games.

"We have got enough quality to win games of football. It is about the eleven players going across that white line with a game-plan and a collective mentality to get three points.

"That's what our game-plan is."
