McDermott - Time To Kick On Now

Midfielder Reflects On Carlisle Draw

9 April 2018

Donal McDermott was quick to concede that Town are entering the last-chance saloon and winning games must now be their ultimate priority.

Phil Brown's side have drawn their last three games, including Saturday's frustrating stalemate with Carlisle United where they were extremely unlucky not to take all three points given their dominance.

And McDermott is now urging his team-mates to kick on and keep going as they look to get the victories they need in the final five games in order to make the Play-Offs.

"A clean sheet is what the Gaffer was looking for, it is his main thing, we had a lot of possession, a lot of crosses, a lot of chances but it was just that final bit," he said.

"We need to start winning games now.

"I have come on in the last two games after being out quite a bit and I'm just trying to do my best and help the team."

"It is difficult because you can do it on the training pitch and you can be unbelievable, but it is just trying to bring that on a gameday.

"If you keep having that amount of chances and crosses then it has to come, so if we keep doing it then we'll have a breakthrough.

"We all know what the craic is and these are must-win games now, to me anyway.

"We just have to keep going and believe that we can win.

"We need to start winning games now.

"We have got that solid base now and we just need to kick-on, if we get one goal then I think we open it up.

"We need to keep going."

McDermott was handed a lightning quick route into the game after Kellan Gordon was stretchered off with less than ten minutes played, and the attacker admitted that he was just happy to be back out playing.

"You are always prepared," he added.

"I was just literally about to sit down, get my shin pads on and things like that but these things happen in football and you always have to be ready.

"The main thing is you just try to do your best.

"I have come on in the last two games after being out quite a bit and I'm just trying to do my best and help the team.

"I've not had too many injuries in the past so it has been different and difficult, and for a player like me I need to be playing regularly.

"That's football and I'm happy to be back involved."
