Brown To Make Changes For Chelsea Tie

Gaffer On Checkatrade Trophy Fixture

6 August 2018

Town Boss Phil Brown has confirmed that he'll introduce a few fresh legs for our Checkatrade Trophy Southern Group C clash against Chelsea's U21s on Tuesday.

The Blues' Development Squad provide the opposition in the Reds' first cup outing of the new season at The Energy Check County Ground tomorrow (7:45pm).

Town are still on a high following their opening day heroics against Macclesfield on Saturday, and Brown will be looking to get the balance right between giving players a run-out and keeping momentum going.

"We have got this ruling where you have to have four outfield players from last Saturday or four outfield players from next Saturday," he told the local media.

"I will be making changes.

"I have got real competition for places in midfield, as we all know, and I have also got two players that are not quite there in terms of Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday yet, so I won't be risking them.

"I have to stick by the rules of the competition so I'll be putting out as strong a team as I can get and I'll also be balancing that off against minutes on the field of play with regards to Saturday.

"Fitness from pre-season is quite high in number of players but there are one or two that need a game - the Toumani's of this world, the Jak McCourt's of this world and Ellis Iandolo is screaming for a game.

"I'll be balancing minutes on the field of play and gametime against the strength of the side I can put out against Chelsea to win the game."

Keshi Anderson is suspended for tomorrow's game with his red card in the competition from last season carried over to this campaign, although James Dunne is available to play with his three-match suspension not counting in the Checkatrade Trophy.

"We've got one suspension in Keshi Anderson and we've got to balance that off against the one player not suspended for the game in James Dunne," Brown added.

"James has had three full 90-minutes in pre-season so does he need a game? We'll see.

"I'll pick a team that sticks to the game plan, sticks to the rules and regulations of the competition and hopefully sticks to the fact that we won on Saturday and we want to win again on Tuesday night to carry that into Lincoln on Saturday."
