Town V Macclesfield - Five Storylines

We Pick Out Key Things To Look Out For

3 August 2018

Swindon Town will get the 2018/19 Sky Bet League Two campaign underway on Saturday with Macclesfield the visitors to The Energy Check County Ground (3pm Kick-Off).

We've put together five things to look out for...

FOOTBALL IS BACK!

After a summer which nearly saw football come home followed by a long six weeks of pre-season, the bread and butter of domestic football finally returns to SN1 and the EFL this weekend.

Phil Brown has given his team a radical summer makeover and there is certainly a feel-good factor in the air ahead of tomorrow's season opener.

New signings galore and plenty of positive signs during pre-season means that expectations are high heading into Saturday's game and the players are certainly pumped up for it, with Brown eager to let his boys off the lease and into the thick of the action.

There is a good omen ahead of tomorrow too with Town having won their last four opening home games.

Let's hope for a fifth come 5pm on Saturday!

NEW BOYS IN TOWN:

There have been nine new arrivals through the door at The Energy Check County Ground this summer, including the return of fans' favourite Michael Doughty.

Town certainly look a lot stronger all over the pitch and it is in midfield where Phil Brown has the most options to pick from.

Fans will no doubt be excited to see the likes of Jermaine McGlashan, Steven Alzate, Toumani Diagouraga and Elijah Adebayo make their competitive Town debuts tomorrow and a fast start from those players could hopefully translate into a positive beginning to the new season.

SID THE KID:

Sid Nelson became Swindon's ninth signing of the summer after arriving on loan on Thursday and the Millwall man is the centre-back Phil Brown has been longing for all summer long.

The 22-year-old brings plenty to the table and he loves to get stuck in and carry out the ugly side of the game, whilst he can also handle the ball well.

Having only had a couple of training sessions with his new team-mates it remains to be seen how involved Sid will be tomorrow, but he will be hoping to give a good first impression should he get the nod.

ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!

Town have used a very attacking 4-4-3 formation throughout pre-season, which has produced some very attractive football.

With Marc Richards currently out injured, on-loan Fulham striker Elijah Adebayo could well make his debut tomorrow afternoon and Phil Brown's favoured system should ensure that the youngster has plenty of chances to feed on.

Keshi Anderson, Steven Alzate and Jermaine McGlashan have all thrived in this formation, whilst Michael Doughty will also add a further attacking punch.

With so many attacking options to go in midfield and up top, Swindon fans could well be in for a spectacle tomorrow.

RETURN OF THE SMUDGE:

Macclesfield are currently preparing for their first season back in the EFL and they will pitch up at SN1 with a familiar face in Harry Smith.

Smith spent a chunk of last season in Wiltshire and he proved to be a popular figure both on and off the field.

He's also a dangerous player both in the air and on the ground and he will no doubt be the Silkmen's biggest threat tomorrow.
