It was a busy festive week at SN1 – for football, as an industry, fixture, engagements and training schedules become more and more hectic as many other workplaces wind down for Christmas.
Junior Reds Christmas Party
The whole first-team squad attended the Better Link Centre for our Junior Reds Christmas Party – there was face-painting, dinner, a chance to enjoy the trampoline park, a visit from Santa and Rockin’ Robin before the opportunity to meet the players, take pictures and get memorabilia signed.
OAP Christmas Dinner
From the young, to the not-so-young – 150 of our more-seasoned fans were treated to Christmas lunch with the players before things got competitive.
The lads were involved in a hotly-contested few rounds of Bingo – with Jak McCourt one of the winners of cash prizes.
Later that day, a selection of players visited the children’s ward at Great Western Hospital. The lads who attended handed out presents and gifts to ages 0-17 and were humbled by the time they spent chatting to parents and the kids.
Over the weekend, the lads battled hard but couldn’t quite take their chances and a Wes Thomas brace secured victory for Grimsby at Blundell Park.
Matty Taylor gave the 184 travelling fans something to cheer about with a delightful free-kick that levelled the scoring after Thomas’ opener from the spot.
The weather forecast said it was 2’C but felt like -4’C with a dastardly gust coming in from the North Sea.
It’s our final full week in-between games until the 12th January as we start our busy festive fixture list. For our festive fixture this weekend against Cheltenham, we have inflatable fun in the form of snow-globes, Santa’s grotto, festive food and much, much more fun for all the family.
Before that, we have our club Carol Service on Tuesday 18th December at Christ Church Old Town.
