PREVIEW | GRIMSBY TOWN (A)

14 December 2018

Town head to Grimsby this weekend looking for four wins a row in the league – the last time they achieved that was back in 2015.

The Robins have been in exciting form since Richie Wellens’ arrival – and started their mini-run with a win away at Port Vale, and followed up with successful outings at home against Stevenage and Newport County.

Kaiyne Woolery made a fantastic return from injury in last week’s dramatic win over the Exiles – he popped up to score the winner with only ten minutes to play.

Martin Ling took Swindon to a run of consecutive wins starting at the end of November the last time they made four on the spin and heading into Advent – starting with a win at the County Ground against Walsall, and ending with a 1-0 win away at Shrewsbury.

The Oppo

The Mariners sit 18th in League Two, eight points behind Swindon and come into Saturday’s fixture in indifferent form.

Last time out, they were defeated by Cheltenham at Whaddon Road by a last-gasp Conor Thomas penalty after Elliot Embleton had cancelled out Ryan Broom’s opener just after the hour mark.

The week before, Grimsby overcame Chesterfield, of the National League, in the FA Cup and have been rewarded with a trip to Crystal Palace.

Head-to-Head

Town have not beaten the Mariners since their return to league football in May 2017 – last season, Mitch Rose scored in the 86th minute to deny Town a point at Blundell Park.

And in April this year, Rose was the man to scupper the Robins – he scored a 45th-minute penalty winning the game with its only goal.

Swindon’s last win over the Lincolnshire club came back in 2006 – a 3-0 win at the County Ground, with all three goals coming in multiples of eleven, the 33rd, 44th and 88th minute.

Michael Pook, Andy Monkhouse and Lea Peacock were the goalscorers that day.
