BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Swindon Town V Forest Green Rovers

Your Essential Guide To Saturday's Game

12 January 2018

Swindon Town return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday with Forest Green Rovers the visitors to The Energy Check County Ground (3pm Kick-Off).

Dave Flitcroft's side haven't played since New Years Day and, having used their break wisely, they will certainly be refreshed and raring to go come kick-off.

Rovers, on the other hand, were in action last weekend when they defeated Port Vale while they were knocked out of the Checkatrade Trophy by Yeovil Town in midweek.

LAST TIME WE MET:

Christian Doidge scored the only goal of the game at SN1 to secure a place in the next round of the Checkatrade Trophy for Forest Green at the expense of Town.

ONE TO WATCH:

Forest Green bolstered their frontline significantly last week with the addition of Reuben Reid, who is prolific at this level.

He made an immediate impact too, scoring the winner on his debut against Port Vale to hand his new side a crucial three points.

While Christian Doidge is still Rovers' main source of goals, Reid gives Mark Cooper's side a different outlet and allows them to mix up their playing style, which could make them a dangerous animal.

TOP SCORERS:

SWINDON TOWN - Luke Norris (10)

FOREST GREEN ROVERS - Christian Doidge (12)

TEAM NEWS:

SWINDON TOWN could hand a debut to new recruit Ollie Banks, although Dave Flitcroft could opt to stick with a winning team which would mean a place on the bench for the on-loan Oldham Athletic man.

Donal McDermott could miss out with a groin strain while Lawrence Vigouroux won't be involved due to an internal club matter.

Dion Conroy remains on the long-term injury list while both Chris Hussey and Timi Elsnik are still on their respective road to recoveries.

FOREST GREEN ROVERS will be without Dale Bennett (ankle) for tomorrow's game while Charlie Cooper will also miss out as he serves the second of a three-game ban.

However, they could hand a debut to new signing Haydn Hollis who became the club's sixth addition this month following his arrival from Notts County.

A WORD FROM BOTH CAMPS:

Dave Flitcroft, Swindon Town Manager: "They've got a certain way of playing and Mark (Cooper) has always done that - he's got a certain philosophy and Forest Green have had that for a long period.

"It is difficult when you come up in this league because it is about being robust, staying in it and being resilient.

"But what Mark has been able to do is get to the window, which is always important, reassess things and maybe change things by going with more robust and stronger players.

"He's gone down a different route in terms of recruitment and the DNA of a player to maybe combat that physicality that you do encounter in League Two week in and week out.

"They certainly look stronger and robust through their recruitment strategy in January."

MARK COOPER, FOREST GREEN ROVERS MANAGER:

"It is still three points. It is a game that we want to win and we want to follow on from last Saturday.

"Swindon is a big club in League Two, a big crowd, big stadium. They will be hoping to get the points to try and get back in the Play-Off picture and we need the three points for a different reason.

"They have some experienced players and they just waited for us to make those mistakes (in the last league games between the teams).

"They've had some good results. They beat Notts County a couple of weeks ago, they won away at Barnet and we are aware it is going to be a tough game.

"We'll have to play as well as we did last week to get any points."
