Doughty Has Unfinished Business With Town

Midfielder Gives First Interview Since Return

23 July 2018

Michael Doughty has declared that he has some unfinished business to contend with after sealing a sensational return to Town earlier today.

The 25-year-old was announced as our eighth signing of the summer earlier today after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

And Doughty - who is already a firm fans' favourite following two previous fruitful spells with the club - has his eyes sight on plenty of team success.

"Firstly, I've got to say a big thanks to the Chairman because of our good friendship and his good negotiation skills he's been able to bring me back in," Doughty told swindontownfc.co.uk exclusively.

"I also want to say thank you to the Manager because working with someone who has been at the top level and who has experienced success was a big carrot for me.

"Both the Chairman and the Manager were big factors in me coming back.

"I love the club, the people there and the fans and it is a huge opportunity for me.

"I feel that I've got some unfinished business here.

"My last two spells here I experienced some personal success but that didn't translate into the team every week, so I hope this time around it works on both sides of the equation.

"Our ambition of course is promotion.

"Not too much has changed but I'm excited to start working with the new players and I'm sure there is a lot of quality here.

"It is about team success and my role will be to hopefully create and score goals and also provide a base for the team defensively.

"The midfield has to be the heartbeat of the team and the manager has brought in some fantastic players, so we shouldn't be shy about our aspirations and we should be competing near the top of the league."

Doughty also provided his verdict on our brand new 2018/19 away kit after helping to launch the classy looking black strip earlier today.

"It is brilliant," he added.

"The kit is lovely and I'm sure the fans will go out in their numbers to support the club because from my experience every penny counts at this level in terms of helping us on the playing field.

"The support from the fans is greatly appreciated and we're going to need them this season.

"We're going to need a strong away record if we're going to be competing near the top end of the league so I'm not sure how the look of the kit will contribute to that, but it is great to feel good."
