REACTION: Taylor post Cheltenham

Interim Boss Honest After Defeat

10 March 2018

SWINDON Town player-boss Matt Taylor was left to reflect on a difficult afternoon at The Energy Check County Ground, but was full of praise for the fans’ support.

The Robins were a goal down at the break before the visitors sealed the points with a second-half brace.

Here are the key points from the post-match debrief.

ON THE FANS…

"I can’t thank the fans enough. It’s easy enough to boo after a performance like that but I made a point of going round at the end of the game and thanking our supporters because they have turned out in numbers and got behind the team, so I really am thankful for that."

ON THE RESULT...

"We had a game plan and for the first 15 to 20 minutes it was bright performance, but then we went off piste a little. As disappointing as it is, I said I will only deal in facts and that’s what we have said in the dressing room after the game. As a group we have had an honest chat in there. We will take our medicine so to speak and move on.

"I will watch the game this evening and then try and digest it. We didn’t retain the ball well enough either, which is strange for us. In the week leading up to the game I felt the lads applied themselves and trained well, but obviously it wasn’t the result or performance we were looking for."

ON TEAM CHANGES...

"Cooky has had a bad wrist and he wasn’t right to start. Stu has bided his time and came in to to start the game. We have plenty of injuries elsewhere and there’s no point in going through them all at this stage because we have several on the sidelines at the moment."

ON CAMBRIDGE...

"Saturday is a massive game but we have 30 points to play for and we have to try and win as many of those as we can now. We have to digest the game against Cheltenham, pick the bones out of it and move on."
