Richards Praises Team-Mates After Scooping Award

Striker Recognises The Collective Effort

9 March 2018

Marc Richards was quick to pay tribute to his Town team-mates after being crowned the Sky Bet League Two Player Of The Month.

Five goals in six games throughout February saw the vastly experienced hitman beat off stiff competition to take the trophy home - the first time that the honour has been bestowed upon him.

"I'm obviously delighted with how things have gone and I couldn't have asked for anymore from the club, the staff and from my team-mates," he told the local media.

"To come here and hit the ground running has been the perfect start for me and to pick up a few goals on the way has obviously been a big help.

"I think I've been nominated a couple of times for a Player of the Month Award, I scored six at Port Vale one month but a defender at Luton got four or five clean sheets and he ended up getting it.

"I was a little bit gutted about that!

"It is obviously nice to pick up an individual award but that is me picking it up on behalf of my team-mates because without them I wouldn't be getting into positions to score the goals.

"For example, Luke Norris against Port Vale, he could have gone on and taken it on for himself and maybe tried to score himself but he was so unselfish that he chose to lay it into my path and it was an easy finish for me.

"I'm picking this award up on behalf of my team-mates."
