Brown Outlines Pre-Season Plans

Players Are Back In On June 25th

14 May 2018

Phil Brown has given an insight into what he would like to get out of Swindon Town's pre-season campaign.

Confirmed as the Reds' new Boss on Thursday after being awarded a two-year deal, Brown is currently working hard behind the scenes to ensure that his side are perfectly equipped to mount a promotion challenge in 2018/19.

The foundations for a successful campaign are often laid down during pre-season, and Brown has revealed what he wants to see from Town throughout the off-season.

"The first thing I'll say is that I'm not too bothered about who the opposition is," he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

"All I need to know is that when we get to the first game of the season, which is the fourth or fifth of August, we have to be ready as a group.

"That is as a collective. Not the Starting XI, not the seven on the bench but everyone together because, as far as I'm concerned, when I first came to the club it was far too easy to be in that treatment room.

"I want a group of players who have a mentality to not want to be in the treatment room.

"It is far too easy to be in there.

"They have to have that mentality from day one.

"All I need to know is that when we get to the first game of the season, which is the fourth or fifth of August, we have to be ready as a group."

"From June 25th working through until the first game of the season, that six-week period prepares you mentally and physically for what is coming in the 46 games.

"That is what I want from everybody and from every player that represents the club next year."

And Brown has also confirmed that his squad of players will be reporting back to duty on Monday 25th June.

"We've got the players coming back on June 25th - that is all in place," he added.

"The pre-season is a little bit of a jigsaw to fulfil but it is already pieced together to a certain extent.

"I know in the near future we'll be announcing one or two of those pre-season games."
