SWINDON AWARDED FAMILY EXCELLENCE STATUS

26 April 2019

Swindon Town is delighted to have been awarded EFL Family Excellence Status for the first time since 2012.

During the season, two match visits are undertaken by the EFL’s match assessors as well as real families and the club is marked on various criteria – everything from social media, to the quality of kiosks and refreshments.

After a promising early-season visit, the second secret assessor gave the overall experience a fantastic score.

Over the two visits, Swindon were placed as thefifth best family experience in Sky Bet League Two with their average score of 8.3 putting them 20th in the whole of the EFL.

One of the most impressive pieces of feedback received was regarding the new ‘My First Game’ Initiative which was launched early in the 2019/20 campaign and has seen a fantastic response with over 150 new supporters enjoying a special day at the County Ground.

At an EFL Fan Engagement Seminar at Birmingham City FC Swindon were also nominated for Most Improved Family Experience across the EFL and the Magic Moment Award.

Head of Ticketing, Danny Lee said:

“It’s something that means everything to this club – the next generation of fans – and we want to go the extra mile for families.

“This is just the start though – I’ve been here 18 months and we’ve all worked hard to improve on what was going before and we’ve received the recognition for it; the first time in seven years that we’ve achieved Family Excellent Status! We’re ecstatic!

“The work doesn’t stop now though - next season, we’re moving the family area nearer to our Junior Reds room and trying to further enhance people’s experience of visiting the County Ground.”

A total of 63 EFL Clubs have achieved Family Excellence status, nine of which have been crowned as ‘Gold Award’ winners for their remarkable work in engaging families on matchdays.

The record-breaking number, up from 56 Clubs in 2017/18, recognises continuous improvement and best practice in family engagement across the leagues and supports Clubs’ efforts to attract and retain young fans of the future.
