WELLENS: I WANT TO END THE SEASON ON A HIGH

21 April 2019

Richie Wellens is determined to end the 2018/19 season on a high as his side face Crewe Alexandra at the County Ground on Easter Bank Holiday Monday.

Town are six unbeaten – however, four of those are consecutive draws which have realistically ruled out any chances of the play-offs.

Crewe have won their last two on the bounce but are in a similar position to the Robins – Wellens is hoping for three positive performances that set continue his side’s momentum into next season.

“I want to try and win three out of three for the remainder of the season and see where we are.

“If it takes us anywhere, then great, but I’ve said before, I don’t think this group is ready to win a promotion.

“Let’s finish on a high and set things in place for next season when we can give it a really good go.”

The Town boss is aware of the Alex’s recent culture of stylish football but will do his research on his recent matches nonetheless.

“I’ll have to watch their game from Friday because you never know if they’ve made changes or have picked up any injuries, but traditionally, Crewe get good youngsters in and they play good football.

“I’ve seen them a few times live this year, so I’m not going to be surprised by them, but I just want to make sure I watch the last game so if there are any injuries or changes in formation, then I’m clued up on it.”
