DOUGHTY: LAST SEASON WILL BE HARD TO REPEAT

2 August 2019

Michael Doughty will be hoping to replicate last season’s incredible opening-day performance as he travels to face Scunthorpe this weekend.

Doughty scored a dramatic, last-gasp hat-trick against Macclesfield, at the start of the 2018/19 campaign, winning the game with seconds to spare at the County Ground.

Wearing the number three shirt, that his wife had picked for him, he started last season with the Robins scoring three times giving Town the three points.

Doughty thinks it’ll be difficult to repeat the feat considering his new shirt number (number ten).

He said: “I’m wearing a different number this year; I’d definitely have to score a lot of goals to have the same result!

“I’d only been here a week, but it felt a like the moment was written for me because I had been really pushing through to comeback to this club. It just felt like a sense of relief.

“My wife wasn’t involved (in picking his number) this time but hopefully it’ll still go well!”

After scoring two late penalties last season on opening day, Doughty described his mindset when stepping up from twelve yards:

“I don’t seem to get nervous because I always know before I take it exactly where I am going to go.”
