WELLENS: WE WANT THAT LEVEL OF ATMOSPHERE AT HOME

10 February 2019

Richie Wellens has called on fans to recreate the atmosphere from Saturday’s win against MK Dons at the County Ground on Tuesday night.

Wellens has previously mentioned his belief in teams giving the crowd to shout about but believes that the support of the 1,258 travelling supporters to Stadium MK was the difference late on.

The Swindon boss called for a rerun of that same atmosphere at SN1 as Forest Green make the journey down the A419 for the rearranged game under the lights.

“I don’t want to make a big thing about it. People will start to say: “oh, we’re at home again…” What I want to see is the same support from Saturday – singing, songs about their club, their players.

“If you sing a song about your player, it gives them confidence and they will play better.

“We need to create a better atmosphere and hopefully the supporters can take the bull by the horns and create a really good atmosphere. When the players are confident they can churn out wins.”

Swindon’s away form is unblemished since the turn of the year and Wellens was quizzed on whether he would stick or twist when it comes to his formation at home.

“I think you saw our formation today suits us very well away from home. I’m not going to make a rash decision now about changing it but I’ll take 24 hours to think about things.

“I’d like to get two strikers on the pitch at home. I think Theo Robinson would be a good foil for another on at home. I’ll have a think about it, watch Forest Green some more – I’m quite clued up on them anyway because of the postponed fixture. We’ll have to wait and see.”
