WELLENS LOOKS AHEAD TO FGR CLASH

31 January 2019

Richie Wellens gave an injury update ahead of his team’s clash with Forest Green Rovers this weekend.

Wellens has spent the week trying to be constructive with his players after a poor performance at the Energy Check County Ground against Crawley.

He will be boosted by the return of Kyle Knoyle as the fourth-placed Rovers visit SN1.

“Kyle Knoyle was concussed against Tranmere – he didn’t train all week. He only passed the concussion test on the Friday before the game so he’s back and trained every day this week.

“Olly Lancashire is still a little bit away – we struggled to find out what it was. We thought it was his calf and then we find out it was a nerve area in his back. Toumani has been training for about 10 days, but just because of his body shape, the size of him, we need to get quite a bit of fitness work into him.

The Swindon manager reflected on his team’s loss last weekend and says he needs to come up with a system that suits his team at home, in the same way he has for when the team travels.

“I’m comfortable with the way we play away from home – I think our results have shown that. The Crawley performance, though, came right out of the blue and I didn’t expect it.

“When it’s so, so bad you don’t want to over-analyse it – it was more-or-less the whole group. We’ve tried to be constructive and I expect a reaction this Saturday.”
