DION CONROY SIGNS NEW ONE-YEAR DEAL

21 June 2019

Swindon Town are delighted to announce that Dion Conroy has accepted a new one-year deal.

Dion was one of Town's top performers last season receiving the captaincy in the latter months of 18/19 and extends his stay at the County Ground until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 23-year-old centre half signed for the club back in 2017 from Chelsea and after impressing was dealt two severe injury blows damaging his shoulder before an ACL injury ruled him out of much of the 2017/18 season.

After the appointment of Richie Wellens, the defender went from strength to strength and became a key part of the Town back-line last season.

Upon signing his new deal, Conroy said:

“It feels great to have signed – I’m looking forward to the new season. Last season, I didn’t want the season to end – the first six months of it coming back from a big, big knee injury was really tough but when the manager came in he gave me a bit more motivation to try new things and get over the injury.

“It was the most I’ve enjoyed football for a long time the last four months of last season. I really enjoyed my football because the Gaffer plays how I want to play.”

Richie Wellens said:

“I think it’s a sign of what we’re trying to do here the fact that Dion, with the performances he put in towards the end of the season while on a free transfer, could have had the pick of the clubs but he’s stayed. I imagine there was a lot of interest.

“That’s probably why it took longer for him to actually commit – I’m really pleased because the potential is there for him to really kick on.”
