TYLER REID SIGNS FOR SWINDON

3 June 2019

Swindon Town are delighted to announce the signing of right-back Tyler Reid following the end of his contract at Swansea City.

The deal comes into effect on 1st July and is subject to EFL approval and international clearance as well as the completion of a medical.

Reid joins on a two-year deal from the Swans where he was a part of a hugely successful Under-23 set-up – in his first season with the Welsh side’s second string he was an integral part of a fantastic league and cup double.

The young full-back was part of the academy process at Arsenal before moving to Manchester United at the age of 14 where he played in the same youth side as Marcus Rashford and worked under the stewardship of Nicky Butt.

After his move to the Swans, and impressive form with the Under-23s, Reid played three times for the first-team; once in the EFL Cup against Crystal Palace and twice in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The 21-year-old has experience in League Two having spent half a season at Newport County in 2017/18 as they finished 11th in the division.

Upon joining, Reid said:

“I can’t wait to get cracking. All I want to do is fight for first-team football. The place looks good and I’m ready for it to be my home.

“The Gaffer has said he wants to give me a chance and I’m ready to take it.”

Swindon boss, Richie Wellens said:

“I first came across Tyler when he was around 18 – I went into Manchester United to work under Paul McGuinness, who has got a great reputation for producing young players, and Tyler was one that we looked at and thought had real potential.

“He’s at a good age and is a permanent deal which is important to us, and he’s hungry. The deal, the financial stuff didn’t take too long because the kid just wanted to come and play and that was great.

We’ll give him a platform to go and show his ability.”
