Swindon Town is delighted to announce that Luke McCormick has extended his contract for a further year, keeping him at the County Ground until the end of the 2019/20 season.
Luke has been a key part of the goalkeeping team this season and is a vital member of the playing squad as a whole.
His character and professionalism was a huge contributing factor in the club offering him an extension.
Town boss, Richie Wellens said:
“Our goalkeepers have been causing me headaches of the right kind this season. Luke has been patient all season as he hasn’t played as much as he would have wanted, which is a good thing, but he has been fantastic when he’s played and every day in training. He’s a fantastic professional and the type of character we want at this club.
“He’s been promoted from this division before and has played regularly in the one above throughout his career so securing his talent and experience is a part of us building for next season and beyond.”
On signing his new deal, McCormick said:
“I think there’s been a really good progression under the new manager – but not just on the playing side, but the direction of the club has been identified. I think it knows where it wants to go – some of the players we’ve brought in have been real statements of intent about what the club wants to do.
“I really want to be a part of the club’s success.
“I haven’t played as many games as what I would have liked but it’s been a really productive year for me. In the games I’ve played, I feel I’ve done well and hopefully the fans and the club have agreed with me. I’ve got a great working relationship with the other goalkeepers at the club, particularly Steve Mildenhall.
“I believe he’ll continue to bring the best out of me and that’s a huge factor of why I wanted to stay. He’s got the motivational side of his work but he’s organised and pays attention to detail and he’s a good honest person.”
