MONDAY BRIEFING: 18.03.2019

18 March 2019

Here’s a summary of the week’s events and a look ahead to the next seven days:

50th Anniversary Celebrations

Swindon celebrated the 50th anniversary of their League Cup Final victory over Arsenal by welcoming back seven of the original squad to SN1.

After inducting Mick Blick, Chris Jones, Willie Penman and Owen Dawson into the STFC Hall of Fame, before Saturday’s game against Port Vale, the boys of ’69 were presented to the County Ground crowd at half-time alongside the League Cup trophy itself.

Following the 0-0 draw with the Valiants, the legends of the day took part in a Q&A in the aptly named Legends Lounge.

In the morning, the club said goodbye to Danny Williams, the legendary Town boss, with a memorial service at Christ Church Old Town with representatives of the club, the squad of 1969 and his family all present, alongside the League Cup trophy.

Loan Watch

Sol Pryce scored on his debut for Bath City as they drew 1-1 with Wealdstone FC. He equalised in the 65th minute after coming on five minutes earlier. Pryce is starting to make a habit of marking his bows after netting two on his first league appearance for Swindon earlier on in the season, against Stevenage.

Joe Romanski also started the game for the Romans having only missed out on one start, through illness, since his loan spell started in January.

Jordan Young was on target again for Highworth Town – he scored his second in two games late on but it wasn’t enough to stop the Worthians succumbing to a 3-2 away at Melksham Town in Southern League Division One South.

Scott Twine started for Waterford as they defeated St. Patrick’s Athletic 2-0. Twine was substituted on 81 minutes with the Blues cruising.

Morecambe

Richie Wellens’ men will be hoping to return to winning ways against Morecambe this weekend. After successive defeats last week and a 0-0 draw against Port Vale on Saturday, Wellens will be looking for three points that will keep his team hanging on the coat-tails of the play-offs.

Earlier on in the season, Elijah Adebayo’s first-half goal sealed victory for the Robins at the Globe Arena.
