PREVIEW: BURY (A)

27 March 2019

Swindon head to Gigg Lane on Saturday looking to build on their thrashing of Morecambe last weekend.

Town ran away 4-0 winners in their biggest win of the season with Theo Robinson, Kaiyne Woolery, Dion Conroy and Kyle Bennett all notching in a relentless showing from Richie Wellens’ men.

Swindon’s play-off hopes still lie outside of their hands – they sit seven points away from seventh place with a game in hand relying on results to go their way for the remainder of the season.

The Oppo

Bury have not lost since Boxing Day – the league’s highest scorers have soared up the League Two table since their meeting with the Robins back in September. Since that day, Bury have only lost four times as they have established themselves as Lincoln’s main opposition for the division title.

The Shakers’ boss, Ryan Lowe was voted League Two Manager of the Season with two of his midfielders making the Team of the Season in Jay O’Shea and Danny Mayor.

Nicky Maynard is second only to Tranmere’s James Norwood in the division’s goalscoring charts, sitting on 18 goals. Jay O’Shea follows up with 16 goals with Danny Mayor and Byron Moore notching seven each.

The Gaffer

Iconic Shakers striker Ryan Lowe put pen to paper on a deal that saw him return to Gigg Lane, in January 2016, for a third spell at Gigg Lane, this time as player coach. Ryan re-joined the club after leaving Crewe Alexandra, who he had joined after leaving Bury at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Lowe made 687 appearances in total as a player, scoring 211 goals – 160 appearances and 70 goals whilst wearing a Shakers shirt.

Last season, Lowe took over as Caretaker manager following the dismissal of Lee Clark on 30 October 2017 until the appointment of Chris Lucketti on 22 November 2017, and again – following Lucketti’s departure.

He was appointed the Shakers’ 41st manager on 10 May 2018 after signing a two-year deal with the club.

He was announced as the Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Season earlier this week as a result of Bury’s impressive rise up the League Two table and their attractive style of football.
