Richie Wellens was delighted with the way his side dominated as they stuck four past Morecambe at the County Ground.
Goals from Theo Robinson, Kaiyne Woolery, Dion Conroy and Kyle Bennett sealed a comprehensive win for Wellens’ team
And the Swindon boss was pleased with the improvement from last week in the final third.
“The way we performed in our own third and the middle third was very similar to last week – we dominated possession and moved it around really well – but the difference between then and today was that our front four really excited us.
“They made loads of different runs and movements, never turned down runs in behind from more or less the first minute. There was a massive improvement in the final third between last week and this week – the amount of crosses we put in and the amount of dangerous situations. When people were in one-on-one situations, they didn’t turn them down, the opportunity to get at them, to get shots off.
“All in all it was a really positive day and I actually enjoyed watching it. Sometimes, as a manager, you can’t because you get caught up in it but today I could sit back and really enjoy our performance because a lot of what we worked on on the training ground, I could see today.”
After last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Port Vale, the Swindon gaffer was looking for goals from all over the pitch but was pleased with his forwards as they chipped in with three of the four goals.
“I think, in recent weeks, other players have chipped in with goals – Woolfenden has scored, and Canice has scored. It’s actually strikers that I want to be really ruthless in the last third.
“A couple of those players have got goals today – three of our front four have got the goals today so that will give them confidence.
“Theo has scored three in five or six, Kyle Bennett has done similar – it’s just about keeping repeating what we’re doing.”
