BAUDRY: WE HAD TO SHOW A DIFFERENT SIDE TO US

13 October 2019

Swindon defender Mathieu Baudry believes that the 1-1 draw against Plymouth Argyle showed a grittier side to performances earlier in the season.

Swindon took the lead in the first-half courtesy of a delicate finish by Eoin Doyle after a fast counter-attack, but Town did not have it their way in the second-half and had to withstand many Argyle attacks.

Argyle drew level eventually thanks to Joel Grant’s clinical finish on 76 minutes.

However, despite not picking up maximum points, Baudry believes the performance showed some new, important qualities.

“I think it was a good performance, said Baudry.”

“We had to show a different part of our game when we had to grind it out at the very end.

“A few people are still catching up due to fitness levels, and injuries, so fitness wise it was a lot harder for us, but we showed the spirit to hang in there against a very good team.”

Baudry also praised the performance of Town goalkeeper Steven Benda.

Benda has mostly been the understudy to Luke McCormick this season, but was called up to the team to face Argyle.

“I think he had a very good performance,” said Baudry.

“We are very lucky to have two decent goalkeepers, so I think it is good to have that healthy competition.”

“He made some great saves, especially in the first-half so it is great to have strong competition for places in goal.”

Baudry made his first start back since returning from injury against Argyle.

The Frenchman has been injured as a result to an injury to the back of his foot.

“I couldn’t even put my heel on the floor, and it was touch and go until yesterday really.”

“Last week I thought about returning but I then thought that it was a little bit too early.”

Swindon have also had to adapt and reshuffle their team due to injuries and players returning from injury.

Baudry believes that the hard work on the training ground is paying off.

“There was a lot of adaptation, there is a lot of talking and watching videos on the training ground so we can get it right.

“But, I think the lads that came in did great.

“When you see Dion who has only really been here for about two days, I think he had a great time.

“Gabriel is catching up after coming back from injury, fitness wise and other stuff.”
