GABRIEL ZAKUANI SIGNS

4 October 2019

Swindon Town are delighted to welcome Gabriel Zakuani to the club on a short-team deal until January.

The 33-year-old ended his contract with Gillingham by mutual consent at the start of September after joining the Gills in 2017.

In that two years he made 76 appearances in all competitions, being made club captain at the start of the 2018/19 season. Injury cut short his season and Gabriel joins ready for action in tomorrow’s game against Bradford City.

The centre-half started his career in the capital with Leyton Orient before moving to Fulham in 2006. After three years and two loan spells at Stoke City, he then moved to Peterborough United, again on-loan, where he achieved two promotions, either side of relegation from the Championship.

He moved to London Road permanently in 2009 where made 148 league appearances and, after a brief spell in Greece with Kalloni returned to play for the Posh.

In 2016, Gabriel moved to Northampton to following their promotion to League One. In the ten years since his permanent move to Peterborough, Zakuani has made 29 appearances for the DR Congo.
