KOVAR SIGNS FOR THE YEAR

28 August 2020

Swindon Town are delighted to announce the signing of Goalkeeper, Matěj Kovář from Manchester United on a season-long loan. The deal is subject to EFL and FA approval.

Kovář becomes the third player to leave United on loan this season after Tahith Chong heading to German side, Werder Bremen and Aliou Traore signing for SM Caen.

The 20-year-old made 4 appearances for United Under-21’s in the 2019/20 EFL Trophy campaign, keeping clean sheets against Rotherham and Lincoln.

The Czech keeper then went on to make 19 appearances for the Under-23’s side, also featuring in the UEFA Youth League.

His impressive performances with the Under-23’s gained him a spot in the travelling squad for the first-team’s Europa League tie away at FC Astana in November 2019.

Matěj has not yet made a senior appearance for the Red Devils but has trained with the first-team on multiple occasions.

At international level, the 6-foot shot stopper has represented the Czech Republic at Under-18’s,19’s and 20’s.

Upon signing his deal at the club, Kovář said:

"First of all, I'd like to say thank you to everyone for the nice welcome, even on the training ground. Everyone has been brilliant with me since I came."

"It was the right time to come here and get some experience in men's football. I'm really happy the club came to me and gave me this opportunity."

"The gaffer Spoke to me in a pre-season game at Manchester United's training game and he's a really positive guy, said he wants to play football and that's what I'm really looking for."

We look forward to seeing Matěj in a Swindon shirt and we wish him the very best while at the County Ground.
